Happy September! We are shifting gears, summer is winding down and kids are going back to school. It's a great time to focus on healthy eating. Consider what foods are in season: Apples, nuts, squashes, pomegranates, etc.
The appearance of a food can give us clues to what it does in the body. For instance, a walnut looks like a little brain. This tells us exactly why we want to eat it!
Walnuts nourishes the brain with healthy fats (the brain is mostly fat) that help with cognitive performance and mood. Sprinkle on salads or yogurt for added crunch!
Nuts are an underrated snack, with vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids and fiber. They are easier to digest when used as nut butters or soaked overnight. Add soaked nuts to smoothies or munch alone.

Ask yourself -
If checking in and making corrections doesn't resolve the imbalance, the other thing to check is available resources. Is the source of stress from more outflow than inflow of resources? This doesn't have to be money, it could be time, energy, or abilities. When resources seem unavailable, it is time to get resource-ful. What do you have to work with and what resources can you ask for, generate, and create?
Sometimes we have made every effort and still cannot find balance or relief. It may be time to ask for help. As much as we hate to do it, sometimes asking for help is necessary. We live on a planet with billions of other people - maybe one reason is to help one another, not try to go at it all by ourselves.
Asking for help gives others an opportunity to connect, feel needed and useful. And there are many amazing professionals that coach, counsel and advise others. Digestive issues are usually related to the food we eat, and can be a response to toxins, deficiencies or imbalances in gut flora. From poor digestion and related intestinal permeability come food allergies, which can also upset the skin. Allergies can be managed or eliminated naturally, ask me how!

I wanted to share a recent experience with you and let you know of a new workshop I'm offering.
Recently, a friend of mine asked me to do a class with the staff at her office. "About what?" I asked.
"About disconnecting." She said. This amazing woman is a therapist and has many interns and therapists she works with. They all work closely with people on a daily basis. Knowing what I do, she said "They could really use some energetic tools to help them disconnect."
I did a couple of group classes with tools and information on energetic fields and how they interact during one on one meetings. It seemed they were getting a lot out of it and I realized how helpful would be for anyone working with people. This would be nurses, customer service representatives, teachers or even moms, but we all interact with the public on some level. And sometimes we come away frustrated, or feeling heavy.
When we are around people, connecting and listening, interacting, working closely with others, our energies connect, mix, create amazing things and have lots of fun together. Sometimes though, being in close proximity can cause disharmony. This disharmony can linger and affect our mood, energy level, and interactions with others. This disharmony can be energetic as well, causing disruptions in the way our energetic system flows and change the way we feel.

We have our own energetic field, which begins to overlap and blur with the other person, and there are unseen lines of communication taking place, like telephone wires where information is sent and gathered. Whoa! Who knew?
Most of the time these naturally connect and disconnect without a problem, but sometimes, communication is unfinished or stays connected unnecessarily. Not helpful!

Ready for warmer weather? It's wonderful to get out and hike or bike in the magnificent California sunshine. Although for some, it is not that easy. An increasing number of people suffer from fatigue and chronic illness that make everyday activities a challenge.

Dealing with dry winter skin?

Let's march into March with preparation for spring. If we don't prepare our bodies for seasonal changes, we can end up with colds, congestion, allergies and chronic conditions. Clean out now to prevent spring colds. Build immunity and vitality by doing some inner housekeeping. You will experience a pickup in energy as a bonus.
Vata is highest in the change of seasons, which is those characteristics of cold, thin, dry, airy, and irregular. If you already tend toward vata, time to counter with grounding foods.
As warmer weather arrives, our bodies are ready to purge from all the heavy, sugary winter foods (I know you didn't eat any of these, but I did!)
As fresh produce becomes available, it's time for more fresh, lightly cooked and raw dishes like stir-frys, wraps and salads of all kinds.

In Ayurveda, winter is the time of Kapha dosha - of inertia, hibernation and regeneration. This is the time to rest, reflect, and withdraw some of the outwardly-focused energy and redirect it inward. In addition, the calm, peaceful nature of the winter can also seem a bit dark and heavy. Some people experience depression or lack of motivation during the winter months.
Depending on your overall constitution, winter cold can be wonderfully invigorating, or stressful and difficult. For example, if you already have a lot of heat in your system, or Pitta dosha, winter may be your favorite time of year when you feel your best. The other doshas vata and kapha are more pronounced and aggravated in winter.
Consider foods and activities to balance your constitution.
If you are very vata - naturally cold, dry and easily stressed, then warming soups, teas and lots of oils are best at this time, both internally and topically.
If you are kapha - heavy, cool and easily congested, then this time of year may cause the greatest upset to the system and you might choose, warm & dry crisp foods and plenty of ginger. Exercise and getting enough light are balancing to kapha individuals.
Fiery Pittas do well with cooling and sweet foods as well as moderation. Pick fruits and veggies in season, as they are likely to balance the body at this time.

There are so many herbal supplements out there, and you can take them in tablet, capsule, tea and powders. What about liquids? As you choose what delivery method is right for you, consider these factors:
